Milestone day, come visit us
We hope you come by, decorate your new apartment, grow some plants, and chill.
About Plant Therapy
Plant Therapy is an easy-going game that starts on day 1, move in day, of your new apartment. Your sofa is here, and a gift. Somebody has left you an apartment warming gift, how nice of them. Open and care for it. The care you provide it will be returned to you as coins and gems. Gather these up, save them, and use them to furnish your new digs. Turn your spartan apartment into your unique, cozy, space.
Milestone day
Plant Therapy has arrived at our milestone 1. This milestone was a rally point for us to consolidate effort. That meant cutting incomplete features, cutting gameplay elements that weren’t quite fitting, and honing what remained as best as we could with the time we allocated ourselves.
The road to here
Plant Therapy has been in development for a few months. The first git commit is tagged September 17. Like all things development, it doesn’t seem like it has been that long. We all have full time gigs and full days. Five months of part-time development is what is currently posted. Overall, I’m pleased with our progress and ability to not linger in the ditch that is tangents and scope creep. Surely there have been a bunch of bumps and prolonged lane changes. The trick is to recognize when you are on the shoulder of the road (or in the ditch), then expediently ponder and course correct as necessary.
Picking the date
Our milestone build was on Feb 17. This milestone was arbitrary and time based. In any software development, the time and quality poles need to be managed. We picked the 17th after deciding that an acceptable scope was in sight and the quality of features was also pretty close. With the date picked, it was best-effort to get it as tight as possible by then. You can improve and refine forever. At some point you need to get on with it and state that you’ve arrived somewhere. We’ve reached that somewhere and it feels pretty good. I think the build we posted is pretty solid and pretty fun. It is a good vantage point to move forward from.
Next steps
Feedback, feedback, feedback. We’d love to see what the wider world thinks of our milestone. We don’t think we are done. We do think there is potential and more milestones to arrive at.
